கதை சொல்லும் நேரம் - Time for Stories

ஹரிஸ்ரீயில் தமிழில் கதை சொல்லவேண்டும், சொல்கிறாயா என்று கிழக்கு பதிப்பகத்தில் இருந்து என் தோழி கேட்டவுடன், ஓ  என்று உடனே சொல்லிவிட்டேன். இந்த காலத்துப்பசங்களுக்கு ஒரு கதையும் தெரிவதில்லை என்ற அதே தவறான கணக்குப்போட்டேன். சரிப்பார்த்துக்கொண்ட பல கதைகள் ஒரு சில குழந்தைகளுக்கு தெரியவே செய்தது. அதனால் கடைசியில், நானே என் குழந்தைகளுக்காக கற்பனை செய்த ஒரு கதை - சபக் சபக் என்றது பூதம் என்ற கதையை சொன்னேன். அவர்கள் அதை ரசித்தது எனக்கு பத்திற்கு பத்து மதிப்பெண் போட்ட திருப்தி. புதிதாக ஒன்றை செய்த பெருமை...

Harishree Vidyalayam needed a Tamil storyteller on the occasion of Tamil Day in their school. When my friend from New Horizon Publishing asked me if I would, as ever, I was ready. Going with the common view that children of today do not know many of the popular tales, I prepared a few and unleashed it on them. But, a few seemed to know all of them. Finally, I narrated the story, Chapak Chapak Goes the Ghost, which I had written for my children. The Harishree children enjoyed it thoroughly. I felt as if they had marked me ten on ten. I felt proud at having tried something new.
